The gift must move (see Lewis Hyde’s the gift) – in any currency – it wishes to change hands, to be amended and enlarged in a new home, and then to move onward, its goodness kept and enlivened through selfless and generosity (hoarding poisons the gift). If you are not abundant in cash but have other gifts to give, those might be greatly helpful to us too – and even a need is a gift, an invitation for us to work within our areas of excellence.
